RM5 on 4D: How Big, Small and iBox Spend It Differently
· 5 min read
Your budget is fixed; how you spend it isn't. Five ringgit on one number can buy a ticket that wins rarely but big, or one that wins more often but small. None of these choices improves your odds or your average return; that stays at about 64 sen per ringgit whatever you do. What changes is the kind of ticket you hold. Here are four ways to spend RM5 on 1234.
Four ways to spend RM5
| RM5 Big | RM5 Small | RM2.50 + RM2.50 | RM5 Big iBox | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1st Prize | RM12,500 | RM17,500 | RM15,000 | RM520.83 |
| 2nd Prize | RM5,000 | RM10,000 | RM7,500 | RM208.33 |
| 3rd Prize | RM2,500 | RM5,000 | RM3,750 | RM104.17 |
| Special | RM900 | — | RM450 | RM37.50 |
| Consolation | RM300 | — | RM150 | RM12.50 |
| Chance of any win | 1 in 435 | 1 in 3,333 | 1 in 435 | 1 in 18 |
What the table tells you
- RM5 Big is the all-rounder: it pays on every prize group, with a decent top prize.
- RM5 Small has the biggest top prize, RM17,500, but loses about 3,330 draws in 3,333.
- Splitting Big and Small keeps the Special and Consolation cover and still lifts the top prize to RM15,000.
- iBox covers all 24 orderings, so it wins far more often (about 1 draw in 18), but each win is small. Most iBox wins are Consolation, paying RM12.50.
Numbers with repeated digits change the maths
A number like 1112 has only 4 orderings. That means RM4 buys a full RM1 Box on every ordering, paying the full RM2,500 on 1st prize, and an iBox pays six times more per win than on 1234. Check how many orderings your number has with the permutation calculator, or read permutation types.
Try it with your own number
The prize calculator does all of this for any number and stake: enter your Big and Small amounts, switch between Straight, Box and iBox, and see the cost and every prize instantly. It takes ten seconds and saves surprises at the counter.
